In the 8th century, the territory was an important palatinate, a place where the supplies of princes were collected and where justice was administered. The Vikings, who settled in Ascloha in 881 AD, carried out raids from the palatinate on many cities in the wide area. Is Asselt the notorious Ascloha mentioned in the annals?
